We are excited to announce the launch of Verse Matters: a new feminist arts event in Sheffield. Verse Matters provides a platform for poetry, spoken word, storytelling, puppetry, music and comedy, showcasing the work of talented women in a friendly, supportive environment.
We’re honoured to be hosting two extremely talented artists at the launch: the wonderful Sheffield-based poet, Helen Mort, and the fantastic performance poet Toria Garbutt (A Firm of Poets). There should also be a couple of musicians from Arts on the Run and maybe even some puppets! Events are open to all.
There’s also an open mic: six performers (5 minutes each). Come along and share a poem, a song, a story, a page of your favourite book. Some of our performers tell stories that have been erased by society: refugees, detainees, prisoners. Others will be speaking in public for the first time. Others are experienced poets, dramatists and performers. All are respected and appreciated.
We look forward to welcoming you to Verse Matters!
